APP #2: Tutorial Designer-Voice thread

Have you ever taught mathematics to your friend in middle and high school? When you teach your peer in your classroom, not only your friend but also you will get benefit from your tutorial. According to November, the help of friends can play a big role in determining their own academic success. (p.27) As many teachers and researchers know, peer tutoring (when managed well) can be one of the most powerful methods for improving learning. As a great tool for learning to create a tutorial video, I would like to introduce Voicethread that is a learning tool for enhancing student engagement and online presence. With Voice tread instructors and/or students can create, share, and comment on image, presentation, videos, audio files, documents, and PDFs, using a microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio-file upload. Once you create your video, you can also invite your classmate to share the video and group discussing. The video in the below is easy to follow to show you how to create webcam video.

I would like to use Voice thread for my math class as a teaching tool. For instance, in the math class, some student finish their work quickly when others need more time. In this case, I will offer the Voice thread that shows students who are already finished their work a math game that I recorded in advance to review today's content. As they watched the Voice thread video, they can figure out how to play a math game by themselves and make a comment on the video. Also, I will be able to use it for the assessment tool to review the learning.

  1. Thanks for the info! I'm interested to see how this would work in a classroom.

  2. I like how you made your own video to make sure that it'll be easy for students to use. It would be great if you could show ways in which you could incorporate this into your own classroom with specific examples or exercises or lesson ideas.
