APP #4: Student Researcher

Today, the Internet provides us with a lot of information and sources. These tools have expanded education further in the 21st century. In fact, many students use the internet on a daily bases. However, the students as a researcher and a learner, need to develop the critical skills about what is good information and what is not good information and learn how to organize and use it for the goal of learning. Especially, in the STEAM class, the appropriate research is critical to the further study. In recent years, STEAM has been taking root over in the education.

"STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!"

The research is an important role for the student to improve not only get knowledge but, also could use the information for the planning of a STEAM project. As a result, good research gives you good inspiration for your project. Like the article said, the STEAM's foundation lies in the inquiry, critical thinking, and process-based learning. The idea surrounding STEAM lessons based on questioning and really deep questioning. For an early elementary grader, it is not always easy to make a question and answer to satisfied their curiosity. So, I would like to introduce the searching engine called STEMWORKS for STEAM class so that the students use it for their research and the STEAM project.

This is a website called STEMWORKS.

There are a lot of resources about STEM subject such as extreme weather, medical innovate, space, animal, and robotics. It provides the information with students friendly wording.

It also provides the newest articles so that the student can expand their knowledge about their topic.

You can also research the related resources about your topic such as videos, class activities, and outreach programs through the connected link.

The downside of the STEMWORK still needs a lot of complement to upgrade their program. Some section seemed to not working and just lead other websites.

This is my example of research and thinking processing in a science lesson. Click the picture below.
